Families Sunsets Clear Water

Consistently ranked America's #1 beach, Clearwater Beach offers pristine white sand, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and the famous Pier 60 sunset celebration.

Clearwater Beach has earned its reputation as one of the world’s finest beach destinations. The sugar-white quartz sand stays cool even on the hottest days, and the calm Gulf waters are perfect for swimmers of all ages.

What Makes Clearwater Special

The beach stretches for 2.5 miles along the Gulf of Mexico, offering plenty of space even during busy seasons. The water clarity here is exceptional. You can often see your feet in waist-deep water. The gradual slope makes it ideal for children and less confident swimmers.

Pier 60 Experience

No visit is complete without experiencing Pier 60’s sunset celebration. Every evening, weather permitting, the pier comes alive with street performers, artisans, and musicians. It’s become a beloved tradition that draws visitors and locals alike.

Beyond the Beach

The walkable beach area includes Beach Walk, a winding promenade with restaurants, shops, and hotels. The Clearwater Marine Aquarium, home to Winter the dolphin from Dolphin Tale, is just a short drive away.

Where to Eat

Hungry after a day in the sun? Beach Walk itself is lined with options ranging from casual beach bars serving grouper sandwiches to waterfront restaurants with proper tablecloths and sunset views. Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill has been a local institution for decades, famous for its fresh catch and laid-back atmosphere. For something more upscale, the Marina district a short drive south has a cluster of seafood restaurants where the boats unload their catch nearby. Come hungry and order whatever the fishermen brought in that morning.

Clearwater vs. Its Neighbors

Clearwater earns its top ranking partly because it does so many things well at once. Nearby St. Pete Beach is quieter and more residential. Caladesi Island, reachable by ferry from the north end of Clearwater Beach, offers a wilder, less developed alternative for those who want to escape the crowds entirely. Sand Key Park, just across the bridge to the south, adds several more miles of excellent beach that tends to run noticeably quieter than the main strip. If the main beach feels too busy, Sand Key is worth the short drive.

Timing Your Visit

Spring shoulder weeks, the ones immediately before and after spring break, offer some of the best conditions you’ll find anywhere in Florida. The water has warmed up, the weather is reliably warm and clear, and the resort prices haven’t yet peaked. October is similarly excellent, with Gulf water temperatures still comfortable and the summer humidity finally breaking.
